Hubert Weber (* 1939 in Vienna ) is an Austrian administrative lawyer. From 2005 to 2008 he was President of the European Court of Auditors .

Life and work

Hubert Weber studied law at the University of Vienna. From 1959 to 1970 he worked first in the labor market administration and later as deputy director in the Austrian Ministry of Social Affairs.

From 1970 to 1975 he was auditor in the Austrian Court of Auditors with auditing activities in the areas of the Federal Chancellery, Foreign Ministry and Ministry of Justice. From 1971 additional involvement in projects of the General Secretariat of INTOSAI, the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions.

From 1975 to 1980 he was initially head of the cabinet of the President of the Austrian Court of Audit , and later he was head of the organizational unit responsible for the INTOSAI General Secretariat. From 1981 to 1989 head of the personnel and training department.

From 1990 to 1995 head of the section for the control of public enterprises responsible for international affairs in the area of INTOSAI and its working groups (AFROSAI, ARABOSAI, ASOSAI, CAROSAI, EUROSAI, OLACEFS and SPASAI) as well as for cooperation in United Nations projects in the area of ​​financial control .

Member of the European Court of Auditors since March 1, 1995. Until March 8, 2000 responsible for the ADAR department (development of auditing and preparation of reports) and doyen of the ADAR group. From March 9, 2000 to April 30, 2004 Doyen of Audit Group III responsible for auditing the budget area of ​​the general budget of the EU Cooperation with developing countries and third countries .

From May 1, 2004 to January 15, 2005 he was doyen of Examination Group III External Policy Areas . From January 16, 2005 to January 15, 2008 he was President of the European Court of Auditors. He then became doyen of Examination Group I "Preservation and Management of Natural Resources".
