Hubert Zitt (born April 20, 1963 in St. Ingbert ) is a lecturer at the University of Kaiserslautern on the campus in Zweibrücken , non-fiction author, lecturer and expert on Star Trek .

Life

Zitt studied electrical engineering at the Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences and then at Saarland University , where he also received his doctorate at the chair for systems theory of electrical engineering . While he was aiming for his doctorate, he was appointed substitute professor at the Zweibrücken University of Applied Sciences in 1999, and has been teaching there since then in the field of computer engineering . In 2008 he was appointed visiting professor at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio , where he taught physics and programming languages for one semester .

Publicity

In addition to his teaching activities, he has made a name for himself as a non-fiction author in the fields of telephone technology , ISDN and DSL . He has also become known throughout Germany as a speaker through his Star Trek lectures. He gave his first lecture on physics and technology at Star Trek in 1996 as a Christmas lecture at the University of Applied Sciences in Zweibrücken. Since 2005 he has been giving Star Trek lectures in other cities, both at universities and at corporate conferences and at science fiction conventions such as FedCon , Europe's largest science fiction convention. Together with the son of the Star Trek inventor , Gene Roddenberry Jr., he wrote the foreword to the book "Star Trek in Germany" in 2008. Since 2011 he has been giving regular lectures at the renowned speaker house Urania Berlin and since 2012 he has been part of the team of 5-star speakers.

As an engineer, Zitt has set himself the task of explaining the technology and other backgrounds shown in the Star Trek series and movies in an entertaining and at the same time demanding manner in lectures. In the fall of 2008 he taught the subject "Physics of Star Trek" as a regular course for a full semester at the "University of the Incarnate Word" in San Antonio, Texas. His lectures, at which film excerpts about technical possibilities at Star Trek are shown and interpreted, serve as inspiration for the employees at company conferences.

Awards

  • For 2007 he received the teaching award of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate, endowed with 10,000 euros, in the subject group of engineering.

In the Kabel-eins production “Beam me up! - The great Star Trek Show “from 2009, Zitt explains the techniques of beaming and warp drive in a guest role .

In 2016 the TV station TELE 5 produced ten video clips with the title “Fascinating, the world of Star Trek with Dr. Hubert Zitt ”, in which the science fiction expert explains technical, but also sociological background to Star Trek .
