Hugh A. Robertson

Hugh A. Robertson (born May 28, 1932 in Brooklyn , New York City , † January 10, 1988 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American film editor and film director .

Life

Robertson worked as a sound editor and assistant editor in the early 1960s . With Harvey Middleman, firefighter from 1965, he worked for the first time as an independent film editor. Asphalt-Cowboy followed in 1969 , for whom he was the first African-American editor to receive an Oscar nomination in the Best Editing category. He also received a BAFTA Film Award . Also in 1969 he made his debut as a director and screenwriter with the television production ... And Beautiful . Shaft from 1971 was the last production he worked on in the field of film editing .

After directing Melinda in 1972, he left the United States and settled in Trinidad and Tobago . He worked as a director until 1987, including for several documentaries, the following year he died of complications from cancer.

In 1982 he was inducted into the Black Filmmakers Hall of Fame.

Robertson was married with two children.
