Hugo-Heinz Schmick
Hugo-Heinz Schmick (born March 30, 1909 in Gelsenkirchen , † October 19, 1982 in Pasing ) was a German surgeon , SS leader and concentration camp doctor .
Life
After completing his school career, Schmick studied medicine at the Universities of Marburg and Göttingen . In Göttingen doctorate Schmick 1935 with the thesis "Changes in the technique of obstetric surgery in the last 10 years," Dr. med.
Schmick was a member of the NSDAP ( membership number 3,681,138). As a member of the SS (membership no. 84,693) he reached the rank of SS-Obersturmbannführer in the reserve of the Waffen-SS in November 1942 . From 1936 he was employed as a troop doctor with the Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler . From October 1939 to July 1940 Schmick was a camp doctor in Sachsenhausen concentration camp , where he conducted human experiments on prisoners with the yellow cross combat gas . Afterwards he worked in the SS-Lazarett Hohenlychen until May 1941 . From August 1943 to August 1944 Schmick was employed in the surgical department of the University Clinic in Jena. From April 1944, Schmick also carried out several months of medical experiments on inmates in the Buchenwald concentration camp for "treatment with concentrated carbolic acid in infected wounds". From October 1944 Schmick was deployed as commander of the medical department in the SS Mountain Division North .
After the war ended, Schmick worked as a surgeon in Graefelfing . Because of the human experiments in the Buchenwald concentration camp, the Munich public prosecutor's office initiated an investigation against Schmick in 1960, which was discontinued. Schmick was also investigated because of the war gas tests in the Sachsenhausen concentration camp.
