Hugo Avendaño (born March 8, 1927 in Tuxpan (Veracruz) , † January 5, 1998 in Mexico City ) was a Mexican opera singer ( baritone ).

Life

He studied singing with José Pierson. In 1950 he made his debut at the Teatro del Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico, with the role of Amonasro from the opera Aida by Giuseppe Verdi .

He was a member of the ensembles of the opera houses in Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey and Veracruz. His repertoire ranged from Rigoletto , Il trovatore (The Troubadour) to La traviata , from Giuseppe Verdi to Carmen by Georges Bizet and Madame Butterfly by Giacomo Puccini .

From 1955, its popularity increased further through radio and television recordings. He has received various awards in Europe, the USA, Central and South America.
