Hugo Benedix ( April 5, 1836 in Solingen - December 1917 in Vienna ) was a German theater actor , director and director .

Life

Benedix, son of the well-known comedy writer Roderich Benedix , first devoted himself to agriculture and at the age of 19 was the head administrator of one of the largest estates in Kurhessen .

After completing his one-year military service, he devoted himself to the stage and appeared for the first time in 1864 as “Rheingraf vom Stein” in the Käthchen von Heilbronn in the Halle city theater.

His next engagements were in Rudolstadt , Hanau, Heidelberg, Darmstadt, Amsterdam and at several Austrian provincial theaters.

In 1866 he came to Vienna, which city he never left. From 1868 to 1882 he was a director at the Karltheater under Ascher, after which he headed the Joseftstädter Theater in 1883 and joined the Theater an der Wien as a senior director on September 1, 1884 , where he worked continuously until 1900. Then he withdrew into private life.

He died in 1917.

When his father married Leontine Paulmann , who was only two years younger , she became his stepmother and Therese Paulmann his step aunt. By marrying his sister Ottilie, he was Heinrich Behr's brother-in-law .
