Heinrich Behr (actor)

Heinrich Behr (born June 2, 1821 in Rostock , † March 13, 1897 in Leipzig ) was a German theater actor , singer ( bass ), theater director and director .

Life

Behr was supposed to be a sculptor, but took lessons from Eduard Mantius and dramatic lessons from Emil Franz . He began his career in 1843 at the Court Theater in Berlin, where he was engaged on the recommendation of Giacomo Meyerbeer and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy . In 1846 he came to Leipzig, where he worked as a singer and actor until 1858. He then worked as a director in Rostock, Bremen, Mainz, Cologne, Rotterdam, Leipzig (where he was a director of the conservatory for ten years ), at the Viktoriatheater in Berlin and Cologne, whereupon he withdrew completely into private life. He was a member of the Berlin Masonic Lodge Zum Goldenen Pflug .

As a singer he was a popular bass buffo and bass baritone and as an actor he was excellent in character roles.

Through his marriage to Ottilie Benedix, he became Hugo Benedix's brother-in-law .
