Hugo Foltýn

Hugo Foltýn (born April 30, 1906 in Brno , † August 24, 1944 in Buchenwald concentration camp ) was a Czech architect and university professor.

Life

After studying architecture at the Czech Technical University in Brno , Hugo Foltýn made his diploma in 1931 with Professor Jiří Kroha . From 1931 to 1933 he did his military service in Khust (Ukraine) . From 1932 he studied Ruthenian folk architecture there in preparation for his dissertation (the documents were destroyed in World War II). From 1934 to 1935 he gained experience with the West Slovak Construction Company in Holíče (Slovakia). From 1935 to 1943 he was a professor at the Higher Trade School in České Budějovice . In 1943 he joined the resistance movement , whereupon he was imprisoned. He was later transferred to the Auschwitz concentration camp and from there to the Buchenwald concentration camp. He died in an air raid in Buchenwald concentration camp.
