from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hugo Krötzsch (born February 26, 1858 in Leipzig ; † May 30, 1937 there ) was a publisher of philatelic literature, stamp examiner, stamp dealer and connoisseur of old German stamps.

Life

He was a well-known philatelic writer with many specialist articles. He had his own philatelic publishing house in Leipzig, Langestrasse 22, from 1893 with the intention of publishing all of the postal areas known and popular at the time in the form of a manual. He also brought out collector's accessories. In the 1890s, he brought two different field forms for stamp collectors onto the market, the "Horn Album" and the "Schwarz Album". He was friends with the philatelist Arthur Ernst Friedrich Glasewald , in whose vicinity he lived, and had good contacts with the philatelic publishing house of the Senf brothers in Leipzig. Krötzsch was editor of the Deutsche Briefmarken-Zeitung from 1896 to 1919 and from 1894 to 1896 the "quarterly contributions to the permanent philatelic collection". He was also an examiner for Bergedorf brands . His large philatelic library went to the publisher Carl Gustav Vogel, Pößneck , then to his sons and finally to the Deutsche Bücherei in Leipzig.

Krötzsch had a son named Kurt (1892–1944) who became the owner of the business from July 1, 1929 and continued to run it for years.
