Hugo Müller (theologian)

Hugo Müller , OSB (* July 29, 1893 in Sarnen , Canton Obwalden as Peter Paul Müller ; † August 8, 1975 in Bozen-Gries , South Tyrol ; resident in Sarnen (Teiler von Schwendi)) was a Swiss Roman Catholic clergyman , theologian and onomastics .

Life

Family and education

The Catholic baptized Peter Paul Müller, son of the carpenter Peter Müller and his wife Marie, born Britschgi, obtained the federal Matura at the grammar school in Sarnen. He then turned to studying theology in Rome , and in 1922 received his doctorate in canon law . In 1916 he was solemnly professed in the Muri-Gries monastery . Peter Paul Müller, who had taken the religious name Hugo, was ordained a priest in Rome in 1929 . Father Hugo Müller died in the summer of 1975 at the age of 82.

Professional background

Hugo Müller initially held the teaching post for dogmatics , canon law and liturgy in Muri-Gries from 1922 to 1923 , after which he moved to Sarnen as a professor. In 1939 he took over the office of spiritual at the Salesianum in Freiburg , in 1946 he returned to his old professorship in Sarnen. In 1957, Father Hugo Müller was appointed spiritual director of the Hermetschwil convent, and in 1959 he was given the post of house chaplain in the Muri district hospital. Most recently he was teaching moral theology in Muri-Gries as a lecturer since 1967 . Father Hugo Müller stood out in particular with onomastic works.
