Hugo Miehe

Hugo Robert Heinrich August Miehe (born August 12, 1875 in Braunschweig , † March 9, 1932 in Berlin ) was a German botanist and university professor. His botanical author's abbreviation (he described algae and mushrooms) is " Miehe ".

Life

After attending school, Hugo Miehe studied botany from 1894 to 1899 at the Universities of Göttingen , Munich and Bonn . He was a student of Eduard Strasburger (1844-1912) and Wilhelm Pfeffer (1845-1920). At the latter university he graduated as Dr. phil. The topic of his dissertation was: Histological and experimental studies on the structure of the stomata of some monocots . In 1902 he completed his habilitation at the University of Leipzig . The subject of his habilitation thesis was about correlative influencing of the geotropism of some joint plants.

In 1903 Hugo Miehe qualified as a lecturer in botany at the University of Leipzig. From 1908 to 1916 Hugo Miehe was an associate professor at Leipzig University. At that time (1909/10) he was involved in botanical research in Buitenzorg on Java and then published "Javanese Studies". From 1916 to 1932 he was professor of botany at the Agricultural University of Berlin , where he was also director of the Institute for Botany and Agriculture.

He became known nationwide through the Miehe's pocket book of botany named after him .

Hugo Miehe was married to Else nee Kaudela. In 1924 he was accepted into the Masovia Hunting Corps in Berlin .
