Hugo Partsch

Hugo Partsch (born September 28, 1938 in Vienna ) is an Austrian physician and university professor. He taught as a professor of dermatology at the University of Vienna and is an honorary member of numerous international medical societies.

Career

Hugo Partsch graduated from grammar school with distinction and then studied medicine in Vienna, Freiburg and Kiel . He received his doctorate in 1962 from the Medical University of Vienna . After completing his medical training at the Lilienfeld Regional Hospital , Partsch moved to the Wilhelminenspital in Vienna in 1965 .

Medical activity

In 1966 he specialized there and at the University Dermatology Clinic in dermatology . From 1970 Partsch worked as a senior physician at the Wilhelminenspital. In 1979 he completed his habilitation in dermatology and also specialized in angiology . In the following year, Partsch set up the vascular outpatient clinic at the Vienna Hanusch Hospital , which he then took over. In 1984 he received a chair for dermatology at the Medical University of Vienna . In addition to his teaching activities, he established an outpatient facility for venous diseases and from 1987 headed the dermatological department of the Wilhelminenspital .

Partsch retired on November 30, 2000.

Scientific work and publications

In more than four hundred scientific publications, Partsch covered the entire spectrum of angiology and related subjects, as well as other subject areas. In addition to his publications on phlebology, he researched and published on thrombosis , lymphology and neuropathy . His scientific focus is on peripheral vascular diseases, venous thromboembolism and leg ulcers . In addition to his own busy publication activities, Partsch worked as editor of the Zeitschrift für Gefäßverbindungen and the VASA - European Journal of Vascular Medicine . Nevertheless, Partsch did not become a "typical specialist book scientist" who lives in a world of his own, but on the contrary a frequently seen lecturer - Partsch speaks several languages ​​- at many international congresses.

Professional commitment

Partsch founded the Austrian Phelbology Working Group in 1986. From this later emerged the Austrian Society for Phlebology, whose first president he became. From 1999 to 2003 Partsch also served as President of the Union Internationale de Phlebologie (UIP), the world association for phlebology . The founding of the International Compression Club (ICC) goes back to the Partschs initiative. The ICC enables a bridge to be built between research and practice in compression therapy and the developers of the methods used, as well as the manufacturers of the corresponding materials. The members of the ICC formulate recommendations and practical instructions for compression therapy for venous and lymphatic diseases, organize thematic courses and training courses around the world, and meet at annual congresses.

Private

Hugo Partsch met his wife during his time as an assistant doctor. She had fallen on her bike on the way to a café called "Partsch" and was taken to hospital. The Partsch couple have three children and several grandchildren.
