Hugo Scholz (writer)
Hugo Scholz (born July 27, 1896 in Ottendorf , Bohemia ; † October 15, 1987 in Seeg , Allgäu ), pseudonyms : Hans Balderbauer, Urli Hofer, H. Roggenberger, was a German writer and farmer of Austrian - Czechoslovak origin.
Life
The farmer's son Hugo Scholz attended the Benedictine high school in Braunau as well as the agricultural technical school, then he took part in the Austrian army in the First World War, where he was seriously wounded. After his return, he ran his parents' farm in Ottendorf from 1920 and also devoted himself to journalistic and writing activities. Scholz worked until 1938 as publisher and editor-in-chief of the Sudeten German newspaper “Scholle” and the monthly “Das neue Dorf” . He also published the village calendar “Message of the Field ” .
Expelled from Bohemia after the Second World War , he lived temporarily in Munich and, in addition to his literary work, ran a small farm on Goimenen ob Seeg until 1968. His memoirs appeared in 1975 under the title “How it was once at home with us. Ein Hof in Böhmen ” , published in 1975 in the third edition by Helmut Preussler Verlag in Nuremberg . In 1927 he received the Honorary Prize of the Bund der Deutschen, in 1930 the Drama Prize of the Society for Art and Science and in 1968 the Polzen-Neisse Landscape Prize. Scholz emerged as the author of novels in which farmers and craftsmen play the main roles.
