Hugo Traub ( April 18, 1879 in Čáslav - after April 26, 1942 ) was a Czechoslovak historian . In 1942 he was first deported to Theresienstadt and finally to Izbica . He did not survive the Shoah .

Life

Hugo Traub studied history and geography at the Charles University in Prague from 1900 to 1905 . He graduated on March 27, 1905. From 1904 he taught at various schools in Brno . On December 26, 1907, he married Ela, née Oplatková, in Prague, and on November 15, 1908, son Jiří Rostislav was born. In 1910 the family moved to Brno. From 1928 he was a member of Sokol Brno I. In 1930 he became an honorary lecturer at the Technical University of Brno . He wrote numerous books, especially about the political development of the 19th century, and he also wrote a history textbook for high schools. From 1939 he was no longer allowed to teach and was dismissed for "racial reasons". On March 29, 1942, Hugo Traub and his wife were deported from Brno to Theresienstadt on Transport Ae (his prisoner number on this transport was 400), from where he and his wife were transferred to Izbica on Transport Aq (his prisoner number on this transport read 772). With this transport 999 people were brought to Izbica, only two people survived, Hugo Traub and his wife Ela did not survive the Shoah .

His son Jiří Rostislav Traub became a lawyer, married the literary critic Vera Lišková, who was killed in a bomb attack in 1944, Jiří Rostislav survived.

Honors

  • He was an honorary member of the museum association.
  • On September 25, 1946, Ulice Hutterova was renamed Ulice Traubova

Memorials

  • On September 7, 1946, a monument was unveiled in the stadium of Sokol Brno I.
  • On October 25, 1947, a memorial plaque for the victims of the occupation on Moravian Square 6/1 was unveiled in Brno. At that time it was a building of the state school board, today the Supreme Administrative Court is located in this building.
  • On November 23, 1947, a memorial plaque was unveiled in Sokol Brno I for the victims of the Second World War .
  • At the grammar school Křenová 36/02 (entrance at Štěpánské ulice) there is a memorial plaque for the victims of the occupation for the teachers and students of the school.
  • On July 19, 2013 Gunter Demnig laid a stumbling block in Čápkova 5, on which the following text can be read:
