Humes is located approx. 3.4 km northwest of Eppelborn and borders on Hierscheid and Wiesbach , both also in the municipality of Eppelborn and Uchtelfangen in the municipality of Illingen (all in the district of Neunkirchen ).
The place is also the highest located place in the municipality and is home to its local mountain , the Wackenberg.
history
Until the territorial and administrative reform , Humes was an independent municipality, which, however, was already administered by the Eppelborn-Dirmingen mayor. The name Humes comes from the word humus, which means moist earth.

Culture
In addition to many hiking trails in beautiful nature around and over the Wackenberg, Humes also offers the opportunity to fish in the local recreation area Wallenborn . Probably the most famous festival in Humes is the "Humeser Backowefeschd", where freshly baked bread and wine can be enjoyed with background music from the local music association.
In addition to many other clubs, the cycling club "Schwalbe" Humes, which was one of three clubs in Saarland active in cycling , was one of the best known and has awarded prizes in many domestic and foreign tournaments under the direction of Viktor Bonnaire. The association was dissolved in 2018 due to a lack of members.
education and parenting
In addition to the St. Sebastian elementary school in the core town of Eppelborn , the community has a private Montessori elementary school in the Humes district. Older pupils usually attend the extended secondary school in Eppelborn or the surrounding high schools in Illingen and Lebach .

Furthermore Humes is connected by the approx. 1.5 km from the Autobahn A1 entrance / exit Ottweiler / Illingen / Wiesbach.
