Hun on horseback
The Hun on horseback is a bronze figure of the sculptor Erich Hösel that a Hun representing warriors.
history
The figure was cast from bronze in 1895 and acquired by the National Gallery in 1897 . Until 1929 it stood in the colonnade courtyard of the Alte Nationalgalerie on Museum Island in Berlin . In 1929 the Prussian Minister for Science, Art and Education , Carl Heinrich Becker , made it available to the then elementary school on Rennbahnstraße (today's school on Bovestraße ) for its inauguration ceremony. The Hun on horseback stood in front of the school building in Hamburg's Wandsbek district until 2015.
Due to the increasing number of bronze thefts in Hamburg, the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation decided to bring the loan back to Berlin. Since December 11, 2015, the Hun on horseback has been set up again in the Kolonnadenhof.

The Hun on horseback is one of the most unusual equestrian statues of the late 19th century. It shows a life-size mounted Hunnic warrior, whose horse shies away from a skull lying on the ground . In contrast to the evasive horse stands the rider , who bends down with a smile on his face to examine the skull. The Hun is armed with a bow and shield . He wears his hair braided .
reception
After Erich Hösel became head of the design department of the Meissen porcelain factory in 1903 , a replica made of porcelain approx. 32 cm long and 30 cm high was created in 1905 .
