Hurzfurt is a wasteland belonging to Gräfendorf in the Main-Spessart district in Bavaria .

geography

The district, which consists of only one homestead , is located on the left bank of the Franconian Saale in the district of Michelau , below the horse mountain, on a path between Michelau and Schonderfeld . It is separated from the outskirts of Gräfendorf about 300 m away by the Saale and the parallel railway line from Gemünden . The station on this connection was closed in 1922.

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in the middle of the 16th century. In 1923 the Saale Valley Railway was expanded to Bad Kissingen . Opposite the confluence of the Waizenbach in the Franconian Saale, the stop for Waizenbach and the communities to the north was built. In the following years, Hurzfurt was expanded to run a sheep farm and later to raise chickens . Since around 1974 there has been a horse breeding facility in the homestead .

The former district of Michelau was incorporated into Graefendorf on May 1, 1978 together with its main town.

Place name

The origin of the name is not exactly known. It is believed that the word is derived from the English "horse" (horse). The fact that related names such as Hengstbach, Pferdeberg, Roßgraben, Roßmühle are in the immediate vicinity supports this thesis.
