The Huwenowsee is a natural lake in the north of the state of Brandenburg . It is located in the municipality of Sonnenberg in the Oberhavel district . In terms of its natural surroundings , the Huwenowsee belongs to the Granseer Platte ; historically it is part of the Ruppiner Land .
The lake is a curved channel lake and, like various other lakes in the area, has a west-east orientation. It extends between the district Baumgarten to the west and the city Gransee gehörendem place Meseberg in the east. Its length is about 2.3 km and the width varies between 140 and 260 m. It has an area of approx. 37 ha. The average water depth is 5–10 m. The greatest depth is 16 m. The Huwenowsee is surrounded by deciduous forest, mainly made of beech , and has steep banks. It drains over the low flow west to the Wutzsee and from there into the river system of the Rhins .
On the eastern bank is Meseberg Castle , which serves as the guest house of the German government .
