Location of the municipality of Sonnenberg in the Oberhavel district

Sonnenberg is a municipality in the north of the Oberhavel district in Brandenburg and belongs to the Gransee and municipalities .

geography

In the southern part of the municipality are the Salchowsee , the Kirchsee , the Kleine and the Große Dölschsee and the Huwenowsee , which are connected by ditches. The Schulzendorf district is located in the Stechlin-Ruppiner Land nature reserve .

history

The eponymous district of Sonnenberg emerged in the first half of the 13th century as a typical farming village of German settlers in the course of the high medieval eastward expansion and colonization. This is evidenced by the settlement structure of a street village, which is still visible today, and the division of the lands. It was first mentioned in a document as Sunnenberg in 1318. In 1524, like almost all the villages in the then Ruppin region , Sonnenberg was desolate . At that time, the Feldmark belonged partly to the Lindow Monastery as well as to various noble families. After the Reformation , the deserted village and the associated area came into the possession of the old Brandenburg noble family von Bredow zu Rheinsberg . The village was rebuilt and settled under their aegis. In 1581 the place Sonnenberg is mentioned as "recently rebuilt". During this time, a new church was built in the place of the destroyed medieval stone church, the spire of which was changed several times in the following centuries and the masonry was subsequently plastered. In 1687 the place was in the hands of the Lords of Zernikow. In the 18th century, Sonnenberg fell to the Prussian royal family as a chamber property (state domain) and was still managed as such in 1857.

The Battle of Gransee took place near Schulzendorf in 1316 during the North German Margrave War .

Sonnenberg has belonged to the Ruppin rule since the 14th century, to the Ruppin district in the Mark Brandenburg since 1524 and to the Gransee district in the GDR district of Potsdam from 1952 . Sonnenberg has been in the Oberhavel district in Brandenburg since 1993.

The community of Sonnenberg was re-formed on September 27, 1998 through the merger of the former communities of Sonnenberg and Baumgarten. On October 26, 2003, the previously independent communities Rönnebeck and Schulzendorf were incorporated into the community of Sonnenberg as districts.

Through the incorporation of the two previously independent communities Rönnebeck and Schulzendorf, the number of inhabitants doubled in 2003.

In 2011 37% of the population were Protestant and 2% Catholic.

The Protestant parish Baumgarten belongs to the parish of Gutengermendorf ; the parishes of Rönnebeck, Sonnenberg (with Rauschendorf) and Schulzendorf to the parish of Gransee . Both districts are in the Oberes Havelland parish of the Evangelical Church in Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia .

The few Catholics belong to the parish of St. Hedwig in Fürstenberg / Havel ( Deanery Oranienburg of the Archdiocese of Berlin ). The next branch church is Assumption of Mary (Gransee) .

In the mayoral election on May 26, 2019, Wöller was confirmed unopposed with 86.0% of the valid votes for a further term of five years.

The local mayors currently (2019) are Edwine Scharein in Baumgarten, Andreas Feindura in Rönnebeck, Nico Hoffmann in Schulzendorf and Winfried Raeder in Sonnenberg.

In the list of architectural monuments in Sonnenberg are the monuments of the municipality entered in the list of monuments of the state of Brandenburg.

The former Prussian country estate Schloss Rauschendorf in the Rauschendorf district was built in 1723 by Hermann Graf von Wartensleben, remodeled in the 19th century in the neo-Renaissance style and destroyed by fire in 1921. In 1923 it was rebuilt as a two-storey baroque palace by Ernst Paulus .

traffic

Sonnenberg is on the L 223 state road from Rheinsberg to Schönermark .

The Sonnenberg stop and Schulzendorf train station were on the Gransee – Neuglobsow railway line (Stechlinsee Railway). Passenger traffic was discontinued in 1969 and has been guaranteed by regular buses ever since.
