history

Church in Schönermark

Schönermark was first mentioned in 1365. Around 1490 Schönermark was part of the Ruppin rule, which was essentially imperial, under the rule of the Counts of Lindow-Ruppin . In 1590 it was the knight's seat of Henning von Zernikow, but then fell to the elector as a settled fiefdom . In 1668 the von der Groeben family acquired Schönermark from the elector by way of exchange. In 1723 Herrmann Graf von Wartensleben got the manors Rauschendorf and Schönermark when he married Dorothea von der Groeben, and around 1735 also Meseberg and Baumgarten Castle . Since there was no male heir, his daughters sold the property to Prince Heinrich in Rheinsberg in 1774, who gave them to his favorite Major von Kaphengst. In 1798 von Kaphengst had to sell the manors Rauschendorf and Schönermark to Count Blumenthal on account of debt. In the course of the 19th century the farming community acquired the property and in 1860 it was run as the municipality of Schönermark.

Schönermark has belonged to the Ruppin rule since the 14th century, to the Ruppin district in the Mark Brandenburg since 1524 and to the Gransee district in the GDR district of Potsdam from 1952 . Schönermark has been in the Oberhavel district in Brandenburg since 1993.
