The Hvítserkur is a 774 m high mountain in the municipality Borgarfjörður in northeast Iceland .
location
The Hvítserkur is located northwest of Húsavík and southwest of Breiðavík . The valley Gunnhildardalur connects to the southeast. To the east lies the Leirfjall mountain , to the north the lakes Stóra-Gæsavatn and Minna-Gæsavatn .
The mountain lies on the F946 slope to Loðmundarfjörður .
Surname
In Old Icelandic serkur meant long dress , so the name means long white dress overall .
In Iceland, a waterfall in Borgarfjörður on Lake Skorradalsvatn and a volcanic vent north of the Hóp lagoon in Húnafjörður also bear the same name .
geology
These are the remains of a central volcano many million years old . This explains the high proportion of rhyolite rock .
The Hvítserkur consists largely of light layers of ignimbrite . The side facing Húsavík is traversed by dark intrusions of basalt .
