Hypochaeris achyrophorus is a species of plant in the genus Hypochaeris in the sunflower family (Asteraceae).

features

Hypochaeris achyrophorus is an annual stem therophyte that reaches heights of 5 to 35, rarely up to 60 centimeters. The stem is wire-haired and leafy. The shell is 6 to 13 millimeters in size. It consists of a number of equally long and closely spaced hairy bracts and short outer bracts on the base. The outer row of hairs of the pappus is 0.5 to 1 millimeter in size, while the outer row is 4 to 8 millimeters, feathery and slightly broadened at the base. The fruit is beaten and 4.5 to 6.5 millimeters in size.

The flowering period extends from May to July.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 12.

Occurrence

Hypochaeris achyrophorus occurs in the Mediterranean area. The species is found originally in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Spain, the Balearic Islands, France, Monaco, Italy, Corsica, Sardinia, Sicily, Malta, Croatia, Albania, Greece, Crete, in the Aegean, in the European and Asian Turkey, Syria, Cyprus, Lebanon and Israel. In the Canary Islands, the originality is doubtful. The species grows on fallow land, sand fields, dry phrygana and ruderal sites. On Crete it is found at altitudes from 0 to 1150, rarely up to 1500 meters.
