Tarrus Riley (born Omar Riley ; * 1979 in the Bronx , New York , United States of America ) is a Jamaican- American reggae singer, member of the Rastafarian movement and the son of Jamaican singer Jimmy Riley .

biography

Since his father was an established singer in Jamaica, Tarrus Riley came into contact with the Jamaican music scene as a teenager and recorded his own songs at an early age. In 2004 his debut album Challenges was released. For his work on this album he received several awards, especially in his father's homeland, Jamaica. In 2006 he released his second album under the title Parables . He also received several awards for his second album, including the CVM TV 15th Anniversary Award for “Most Popular Song in the Past 15 Years” for his song She's Royal . After these successes, he also went on tour around the world and played at the largest reggae festivals in the world, such as the Summerjam in Germany in 2008 .

After the very successful second album and many awards in Jamaica, his third studio album Contagious was released in 2009 . It contains very successful songs like Start A New , Contagious and Good Girl Gone Bad featuring Konshens . In other songs he also worked with artists such as Etana , Duane Stephenson , Vybz Kartel and Demarco . In 2010 the song Protect The People was released and celebrated great success in Jamaica and the entire Caribbean. Also in early 2011 he had great success with the song Shaka Zulu Pickney , which deals with the history and famous personalities of the civil rights movement such as Martin Luther King . Also in 2011, he published another successful singles like Come Ova and Never Leave I .

In 2012 he released his acoustic album Mecoustic and went on tour with his Blak Soil Band in Europe, on which he was also supported on some performances by the saxophone legend Dean Fraser .

His appearance with the Blak Soil Band at the 33rd Summerjam in July 2018 was recorded and broadcast by the WDR-Rockpalast.
