Hypomyces cervinigenus is a species of mushroom belonging to the family of the crustball relatives . The parasitic hose fungus grows on lorels ( Helvella ) in Europe and North America.

description

H. cervinigenus has white to pale ocher perithecia with a waxy texture. The ascospores are two-celled, delicate-walled and less than 25 µm long.

Taxonomy

H. cervinigenus was first described in 1971 by Clark Rogerson and Horace Simms . The type specimen was collected in Pierce County, Washington , where the fungus grew on the stem and cap of what was identified as the fruiting body of Helvella lacunosa . The anamorphic form of the fungus is known as mycogone cervina .
