Hypomyces is a genus of parasitic hose fungi from the family of the crust ball fungus relatives . It occurs in Europe, North America, Australia and parts of China. The genus includes 53 species. The more widely known species include Hypomyces lactifluorum ( English lobster mushroom ) and H. chrysospermus ( English bolete eater ).
features
Species of the genus Hypomyes only parasitize the fruiting bodies of other mushrooms, especially boletus , mushroom-like and non-leaf mushrooms, and rarely also sac mushrooms . Some species have only one to a few hosts, others have a broader host range. The spores are spindle-shaped and finely pointed, in many species they are also warty. Hypomyces species form a secondary crop . The fruiting bodies, the perithecia , are embedded in a brightly colored hyphae , the subiculum , which is formed on the fruit layer of the host fungus.
Taxonomy
The type species of the genus is Hypomyces lactifluorum ( pig. ) Tul. & C. Tul.
