The Metro Station Iéna is an underground station of line 9 of the Paris Métro .

location

The station is located on the Avenue du Président Wilson under the Place d'Iéna in the Quartier de Chaillot in the 16th arrondissement of Paris .

Surname

It is named after the Place d'Iéna and the Avenue d'Iéna that crosses this square . Near Jena (fr: Iéna) on October 14, 1806, the French troops defeated the Prussian army in the Battle of Jena .

History and description

The station opened on May 27, 1923 when the first extension of line 9 from Trocadéro to Saint-Augustin was put into operation.

The station has two side platforms on two main tracks. It has an elliptical cross-section, the ceiling and walls are tiled in white. Like most of the Paris metro stations, it is 75 m long - enough for five-car trains.

One of the three entrances is adorned by a candelabra designed by Adolphe Dervaux in the Art Deco style , and another by one of the Val d'Osne art foundry .

vehicles

Initially, Sprague-Thomson trains ran on line 9 , and in 1983 they were replaced by those of the MF 67 series . The MF 01 series has been increasingly used since October 2013 .

Others

The Museum of Asian Arts Musée Guimet , the museum and exhibition building for modern art Palais de Tokyo and the Paris Goethe Institute are in the immediate vicinity of the Iéna station .
