The IAR-823 is a Romanian multipurpose aircraft for civil and military purposes.

history

Construction work began in 1970 under the direction of Radu Manicatide. A year later, construction of the prototype began at the IAR plant in Brașov , and it flew for the first time on June 10, 1973. After the successful testing, the sample was released for series production. The IAR-823 was designed for various tasks. In the two-seater version, it can be used as a sport aircraft suitable for aerobatics, without seating as a transporter for up to 400 kg of cargo. There is a four-seat travel version as well as a medical version with space for a stretcher and a seat for an accompanying person. The Romanian air force , which received the majority of the built numbers with around 60 units, used the model as a navigation and instrument trainer as well as for night flight training. The remaining IAR-823 were delivered to flying clubs. Production in Brașov ended in 1983 after 78 units had been built.

construction

The IAR-823 is a low- wing aircraft in all-metal - half-shell construction with a cantilevered supporting structure and tail unit , also made of metal . The wing is equipped with a spar and side spar, the elevator with trim tabs . The lift and landing flaps are electrically operated. The nose wheel landing gear is designed to be electrically retractable, has an hydropneumatic suspension and has hydraulic brakes. The nose wheel is controllable.
