Run

Seacourt Stream

From the split, the Seacourt Stream flows south past Wytham and under the A34 Oxford Ring Road. The Botley Stream branches off from the Seacourt Stream near the place of the no longer existing Seacourt and flows into the Bulstake Stream after 0.8 km . ( 51 ° 45 ′ 30 ″  N , 1 ° 17 ′ 17 ″  W ) The Seacourt Stream continues under Botley Road and joins the Bulstake Stream at North Hinksey .

The Seacourt Stream is 12.7 km long.

Hinksey Stream

The Hinksey Stream splits from the Seacourt Stream just before its confluence with the Bulstake Stream. It flows between South Hinksey in the west and New Hinksey in the east. It flows under Oxford Ring Road near the junction with Abingdon Road (A4144). Shortly afterwards the Weirs Mill Stream flows into it. The Hinksey Stream flows into the Thames just upstream of the Kennington Railway Bridge . The Thames Path crosses the Hinksey Stream with a footbridge at this point.

From Ferry Hinksey Road a ferry ran to North Hinksey, also known as the Ferry Hinksey. The ferry service was stopped in 1928 and replaced by a bridge.

The Hinksey Stream is 4.2 km long.

The river as a border

In Anglo-Saxon times, the Seacourt Stream was the border between Mercia and Wessex . Until 1974 he was the border between Berkshire and Oxfordshire at this point. It was also known as Shire Lake in the 16th century.

Downriver from North Hinksey, the border between Berkshire and Oxfordshire was the Hogacre Stream (or Hogacre Ditch ) ( 51 ° 44 ′ 37 ″  N , 1 ° 16 ′ 30 ″  W ), a tributary of the Bulstake Stream which runs parallel to and after the Hinksey Stream 1.9 km flows into it. Between 1889 (when Grandpont and New Hinksey came to Oxfordshire) and 1974, the Hinksey Stream was the boundary south of the confluence with the Hogacre Stream.
