The IBS - International Business School is a private German business school to Anglo-Saxon model in Nuremberg .

History and focus

In 1984 the original International Business School Lippstadt was founded. The International Business School Nuremberg opened in 2006. The International Business School in Nuremberg offers a six-semester course leading to the degree in International Business Administration (IBS) with the subjects of general management, hotel and tourism management, media, culture and event management, marketing management, business psychology and human resources, real estate management and sports management . The student receives a non-academic degree from IBS as "International Business Administration", and the student also receives a state-recognized academic bachelor's degree from the English University of Sunderland, "Bachelor of Arts in Management". The English bachelor's degree is taken at Sunderland University in cooperation with IBS.

This means that Nuremberg and Lippstadt have the option of a double degree for an English Bachelor (state) and International Business Administration (IBS) subject (non-state). IBS was also located in Bad Nauheim until the end of 2007 and in Berlin until September 3, 2010 . The state-recognized IBS Berlin was renamed the EBC University. The study programs as well as the state recognition of the university remained unaffected.

The studies

The "International Business Studies" course comprises six semesters and two three-month internships (at home or abroad). There are three semesters for the basic course and three semesters for the main course. In the main course, the students choose a specialization (media, culture and event management, marketing management , real estate management , general management , sports management , business psychology and human resources , hotel and tourism management).

From the 4th semester onwards, IBS students are also enrolled at the University of Sunderland in order to complete an English Bachelor's degree in addition to their subject specialization.

Bachelor of Arts (Hons)

Students have the opportunity to earn a Bachelor of Arts Honors (BA Hons) in Business Management from the University of Sunderland (UK) in their third year . During the bachelor’s program, IBS students are enrolled at the University of Sunderland (UK) , which also awards the bachelor’s degree. However, the bachelor's degree is only acquired for the last 3 semesters.

The following Bachelor courses are completed by the students: "Managing Projects", "Contemporary Developments in Business and Management", "Marketing Strategy", "Strategic Management of Human Resources", "Strategic Management Accounting", "Strategic Management."

Cooperations

IBS cooperates with partner institutions in Great Britain, Spain, France, China, Ireland and Russia.

IBS memberships

In 2002 the IBS International Business School was taken over by the ESO group and has been part of this community of educational institutions ever since. IBS Lippstadt is a member of the Paderborn Marketing Club, and IBS Nürnberg is a member of the Nuremberg Marketing Club. The International Business School is part of the Skål International tourist association .

The IBS Group is also active in the Campus International network , in which various universities such as B. the ISM Dortmund , the Munich Business School or the EBC University are merged.

criticism

The International Business School caused negative headlines in 2002. At that time, the International Business School advertised for some time with internationally recognized or internationally known degrees. Since the Bachelor's degree from the University of Lincoln (UK), which could be obtained at the IBS, was initially not confirmed by the Ministry of Science and Research in Germany, some students sued the International Business School . In 2005, the Higher Regional Court in Frankfurt am Main sentenced the International Business School Bad Nauheim for fraudulent misrepresentation to repay tuition fees and damages to a student (AZ 2 U 99/04). The lawsuit was only directed against the IBS in Bad Nauheim, which has now been closed, but not against the locations in Lippstadt and Nuremberg.

In the book “Die Bluff Gesellschaft” published in 2002, the journalist Bärbel Schwertfeger criticizes the, in her opinion, comparatively low academic level of the IBS.

In addition, the IBS diploma “Internationaler Betriebswirt (IBS)” was awarded in the diploma certificates issued by IBS , which is neither a state-recognized degree nor an academic degree. This could easily lead to confusion with the academic degree Diplom-Betriebswirt . These problems arose with many foreign and non-state degrees before the introduction of the Bachelor's degree through the Bologna Process in Germany. Since the Bologna Agreement of 2006, the IBS, in cooperation with an English university (Sunderland or, in the meantime, Surrey) has awarded the state-recognized title of Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Business Management plus the non-state title of IBS Internationaler Betriebswirt ..... . (Specialization) .
