The Leonore Goldschmidt School , also known as IGS Mühlenberg , is a comprehensive school in Hanover - Mühlenberg.

history

The IGS Mühlenberg started teaching in August 1974. The school building was completed in 1976 according to plans by the architects Bassenge, Puhan-Schulz, Schreck. Since February 2000, the school has been the first IGS in Lower Saxony to call itself a European school . In February 1999 the IGS Mühlenberg became a certified environmental school in Europe and worked together with the School Biology Center in Hanover . The SchulLab is an ESD learning location recognized by the Lower Saxony Ministry of Culture . It is also a training and career choice-friendly school, media profile school, ECDL authorized examination center, theater pedagogical center Hanover and fair play conflict resolution.

In the years from 2013 to the planned completion in 2016, the building was gradually demolished and replaced by new buildings. The project, estimated at 63 million euros, was announced as the largest, most expensive and most difficult construction project in the city of Hanover in these years.

With accessibility , a floor area of around 30,000 square meters, 1,350 students and over 150 teachers, the Leonore-Goldschmidt-Schule is the largest school in Hanover. As more comprehensive schools were built in Hanover, however, the number of pupils has decreased; a few years ago there were around 2000 pupils. For the 2016/2017 school year the IGS Mühlenberg was named "Leonore-Goldschmidt-Schule, IGS Hannover-Mühlenberg" and thus after Leonore Goldschmidt . The school thus follows the example of many streets and facilities in the Mühlenberg district whose names recall the merits of those who opposed the Nazi dictatorship. Most of the time, however, the school is still referred to as "IGS Mühlenberg".

Pedagogical model

By using digital media and interdisciplinary teaching, the school wants to use modern and future-oriented teaching methods and thus better prepare students for professional life.
