Attendees

The Saturn Arena

The 16 teams will be, as with the previous World Championships, in the Top Division and the Division I split. The results of the 2008 World Cup result in the following breakdown:

qualification

After Bulgaria and New Zealand were relegated from Division I last year, two places were still open for the tournament.

Taiwan was nominated by the association as an Asian-Oceanic qualifier . In the African qualification, South Africa prevailed against Namibia . The two games in the series in Best-of-Two mode took place on August 24th and 30th, 2008. South Africa won the first game 3-2, so a 1-1 draw in the second leg was enough for them to participate in the World Cup.

Preliminary round

In the preliminary round, the teams played the placements for the quarterfinals in four groups of four teams. The bottom two of the group in the top division then had to play a subsequent qualification for the quarter-finals against the group winners of division I.

Top division

Group A

In the balanced group A, the US team prevailed over the reigning world champion Sweden. The Czech Republic reached the quarter-finals in third place, although they were defeated by Canada on the final day of the preliminary round, which meant that they had to qualify for the quarter-finals.
