It was presented to the public on March 2, 2011 by the late Apple CEO Steve Jobs at his last keynote speech and was available from March 11, 2011. The sale continued until March 18, 2014. The iPad 2 is the most popular iPad model; until the launch of the iPad Air in September 2013, the total share of all iPad models was almost 40%. The mobile operating system Apple iOS up to version 9.3.6 runs on the iPad 2 . It is the last iPad without a Retina display .

description

The iPad 2 has a rear made of aluminum and optionally a white or black edge of the front glass pane around the central screen. A home button is attached to the lower center edge, and an orientation lock switch is located on the right side of the case next to the volume rocker. The iPad 2 has a camera underneath the on / off switch on the top of the housing, while another camera is installed on the front in the middle of the upper edge of the screen. The resolution of the cameras is 0.7 and 0.3 megapixels. There is also a mono microphone and a 3.5 mm jack connection on the top. A mono speaker is installed on the underside next to the classic 30-pin dock connector. The iPad 2 is operated primarily by touching the touch screen.

Apple offered the iPad 2 as a 16, 32 or 64 GB version without a modem. Additionally, there is for the North American market with iPad 2 CDMA - modem and for the European market with a UMTS modem. The European devices use SIM cards in the micro-SIM format or cards with the form factor 3FF (12 mm × 15 mm). Apple states up to 10 hours of battery life when surfing the Internet via WLAN and up to 9 hours when using a 3G data network. The battery of the iPad 2 is a 25 Wh lithium polymer battery . In addition to the cellular modem, Apple installed an A-GPS module. Devices without a modem also have the digital compass.

The Apple A5 , which uses an ARM Cortex A9 dual-core processor with a clock frequency of 1 GHz, serves as the system-on-a-chip for the iPad 2 . Every version of the iPad 2 has an SGX-543 graphics processor with two cores. Towards the end of March 2012, a revised version of the iPad 2 came on the market, which is internally called iPad 2.4 . Compared to the "original iPad 2", the iPad 2.4 has a revised Apple A5 SoC and thus an improved battery life. Externally, the iPad 2.4 does not differ from the normal iPad 2. The iPad 2.4 was only produced as a WiFi version with 16 GB. The iPad mini shares the version numbers with the iPad 2.
