Apple iPhoto

iPhoto was a photo management - software for macOS and belongs to iLife package, which also GarageBand , iMovie , iDVD and iWeb are included. With the operating system version OS X Yosemite 10.10.3, iPhoto was discontinued in favor of its successor Apple Photos .

Functions

New images could be imported from a digital camera and classified into categories. Once imported, iPhoto was able to perform simple image manipulations such as changes to brightness or contrast, white balance , sharpening and rotating. Other functions were: red eyes remove obstructions touch up , apply various filters, print, via email, as QuickTime -Movie or site to export. iPhoto kept an original of each image that could be accessed later.

From version 6 onwards, iPhoto was also able to process RAW images.

With version 6, MobileMe members could also publish pictures as so-called photocasts on the Internet. With version 7, this function was replaced by the integration of the MobileMe Web Gallery function. Published images could be sorted in photo albums, viewed in an online gallery with different display modes, downloaded individually or together as a ZIP archive , or subscribed to as an album in iPhoto. A subscribed album was automatically updated as soon as the owner added new pictures, so that new pictures were downloaded from the subscribers and the subscribed album was synchronized with the owner's. In addition, if the owner allows, visitors to the MobileMe web gallery could add pictures themselves via web browser or email. These images then appear immediately in the web gallery and are also synchronized back to the originally published album and all subscribed albums.

From version 8 onwards, iPhoto included a number of new functions: It offered the option of automatically recognizing faces in photos and assigning identical faces to a specific person. Another innovation was the implementation of geotagging functions such as displaying the coordinates on a map and subsequent location of the image. In addition, it was now possible to publish pictures on the photo service Flickr and the social networking platform Facebook . With the latter, the information and names obtained via face recognition are also published. If other people are manually marked by name via the Facebook platform, this information is synchronized back to iPhoto. Theme-related templates can also be used for slide shows. Photos were inserted into prefabricated so-called "artworks" and virtual camera shots played over them. Maps based on the information from the new “Places” function can be used in the slide shows as well as in the types of print (photo albums etc.) that can be purchased via iPhoto.

Version 9 of iPhoto was available since October 2010. Up to 250,000 photos could be managed in a library. The photos, greeting cards, wall calendars or photo albums created could also be ordered through Kodak . Since the beginning of 2012, iPhoto was also available as an app for Apple's iOS devices from iOS 5.1 , so that it could also be used on the iPhone and iPad . The iPod touch was not supported here. For the first time, this version no longer uses maps from Google Maps , but rather data from OpenStreetMap .

The iOS version was discontinued in autumn 2014 with the appearance of the iOS 8 operating system. It has been replaced by the Photos app integrated in the operating system, which can now be expanded with plug-ins from other developers. In April 2015, the OS X version was also replaced by the successor product Apple Photos . iPhoto has not started since then either. Instead, a notice appeared that these functions had been adopted in the Photos app.
