Ian Ashworth (born April 30, 1987 ) is a South African ice hockey player who has played for the Johannesburg Wildcats in the Gauteng Province Hockey League since 2010 .

Career

Ian Ashworth played in the junior division for the Krugersdorp Wildcats and the Johannesburg Scorpions. Since 2010 he has been under contract with the Johannesburg Wildcats in the Gauteng Province Hockey League , one of the regional ice hockey leagues whose winners play for the South African championship title.

International

Ashworth was already on the ice for his home country at the U18 World Championships 2003 and 2005 in Division II and 2004 in Division III as well as at the U20 World Championships in 2003 and 2004 in Division II and 2005 in Division III.

He made his debut in the men's national team at the age of 16 at the 2004 World Cup in Division II. It was only seven years later that he was used again at the 2011 Division III World Cup in Cape Town and rose with his team as second behind Israel in the Division II on. He himself was voted the best player on his team. World Cup 2014 and 2015 he played again in Division II.
