Ian Davidson (born September 8, 1950 ) is a Scottish politician from Labor and the Co-operative Party .

Political career

For 14 years Davidson represented the Labor Party for the Govan district on the Glasgow City Council. The SNP politician Jim Sillars had won the by-elections after the resignation of Labor politician Bruce Millan in the Glasgow Govan constituency . For the following regular general election in 1992 , the Labor Party established Davidson in this constituency. He prevailed on election day with a share of 48.9% of the vote against his opponents and subsequently moved into the British House of Commons for the first time .

In the subsequent 1997 elections, Davidson no longer ran for Glasgow Govan. His party colleague Mohammad Sarwar held the mandate . Davidson, however, applied for the mandate of the neighboring constituency Glasgow Pollok , which he won with a share of the vote of 59.9%. In the general election in 2001 he defended his mandate.

Since his constituency was dissolved at the end of the electoral term, Davidson entered the general election in 2005 in the newly created constituency of Glasgow South West . He prevailed with a share of the vote of 60.2% and was able to increase his result in the following general election in 2010 to 62.5%. After the SNP gained massive votes, Davidson lost his mandate in the 2015 elections . This went to the SNP candidate Christopher Stephens .
