The Iberian loosestrife ( Lysimachia ephemerum ) is a species of the genus loosestrife ( Lysimachia ).

features

The Iberian loosestrife is a perennial, herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 40 to 110 cm. The leaves are alternate and measure 5 to 10 × 0.6 to 1.5 centimeters. The upper ones are lanceolate, the lower spatulate. The inflorescence is a terminal cluster. The flowers are six-fold. The crown is purple.

The flowering period extends from June to September.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24.

Occurrence

The Iberian loosestrife occurs in Portugal, Spain and southwest France on wet meadows and at springs.

use

The Iberian loosestrife is rarely used as an ornamental plant for groups of trees, pond edges and perennial beds, and as a cut flower. The species has been in culture since 1730 at the latest.
