Career

As a player

The native Kosovar Albanian began his handball career with the then first division club St. Pölten. In 2000 he moved to UHK West Vienna. From 2001 he played at UHC Tulln with which he won the ÖHB Cup in 2003/2004 . A year later he was able to gain his first international experience in the EHF Cup Winners Cup . With the start of the 2005/2006 season, he moved to UHK Krems where he only stayed one year before he went to Alpla HC Hard in Vorarlberg . The 1.79 meter tall superstructure player only spent a year in Hard, and in the summer of 2007 he was signed back to the UHK Krems. Ibish Thaqi was part of the Aon Fivers Margareten squad since the 2009/2010 season . After winning the championship title with Aon Fivers Margareten in 2011, Ibish Thaqi moved to his original place of work, the St. Pölten handball club, from the 2011/2012 season.

For the Austrian national team he scored 12 goals in 12 games.

As a trainer

Since moving to Union St. Pölten in 2011 , Thaqi has been head coach , and in 2012 he ended his playing career. In his third season in the Handball Bundesliga Austria , he made promotion to the Handball League Austria with the Lower Austrians . In December 2016 he ended his engagement with the state capitals. From the 2017/18 season he will work as a trainer for UHK Krems .

Others

In addition to his work as a trainer, Thaqi has been running the "Café Restaurant Promenade" restaurant in St. Pölten since 2015.
