Ibn Daqiq al-ʿId

Ibn Daqiq al-ʿId ( Arabic ابن دقيق العيد, DMG Ibn Daqīq al-ʿĪd ; * July 30, 1228 near Medina ; † October 5, 1302 ) was an Islamic scholar, judge and author of the 13th century. He is an author numerous works that are highly valued in classical Sunni Islam to this day. But it is best known for his commentary on the "Forty Hadiths" of Imam an-Nawawī . In the šafiʿītic and Malikītic schools of law he is one of the recognized authorities. His areas of expertise are the Hadīṯ sciences and Uṣul 'l-fiqh ( methodology of Islamic law ).

Surname

His full name is: Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī ibn Wahb ibn Muṭīʿ ibn Abī aṭ-Ṭāʿah al-Qušayrī, Abū al-Fatḥ Taqī ad-Dīn, Ibn Daqīq al-ʿĪd.

Life

He was born on a Saturday, July 30, 1228 near Madīna , when his father Maǧd ad-Dīn was planning the pilgrimage . Ibn al-Ḫaǧar'Asqalani narrated that his father, the Ka'ba for surround and asked that his son knowledge and righteous deeds are awarded. Ibn Daqīq grew up in the Egyptian city of Qūs and first learned classical Islamic disciplines from his father, who belonged to the Malikītic law school. He later studied under Al-ʿIzz ibn ʿAbd as-Salam and mastered Islamic law, both according to the šafiʿīt and the Malikītic school of law. In 695 AH he was given the post of Supreme Judge of the Safiʿīten in Egypt.

His students included the Imām of the Ḥadiṯ sciences , aḏ-Ḏahabī , as well as an-Nuwairi , Abū Ḥayyān al-Ġarnāṭī, like many other leading scholars.

Works
