List of church buildings in the Saarpfalz district
The list of church buildings in the Saarpfalz district lists all the churches and (larger) chapels in the Saarpfalz district in southeast Saarland . In contrast to the rest of today's Saarland, the area of today's Saarpfalz district was historically predominantly part of the Kingdom of Bavaria , which is still reflected in church membership today. For this reason, the Catholic parishes here belong to the Speyer diocese and the Evangelical parishes to the Protestant regional church of the Palatinate . Accordingly, the term “Evangelical Church” is rather unusual here; instead, the term “Protestant Church” is used synonymously. An exception is the place Rentrisch , which was only incorporated into the city of St. Ingbert and thus to the Saarpfalzkreis with the territorial reform in 1974 and thus belongs to the Trier diocese on the Catholic side and to the regional church in the Rhineland on the Protestant side . In addition, the Saarpfalz district differs from the other Saarland districts in that both major denominations are represented relatively equally and therefore two churches exist in many villages.
