The church Maria vom Frieden is a Catholic parish church in Erbach , a district of Homburg , the district town of the Saarpfalz district in Saarland . She bears the patronage of Mary, Queen of Peace .

history

After the area of the Erbach parish of St. Andreas was divided into two parish areas, construction work began on December 17, 1953 to build a church for the newly formed southern area. The plans for the church building came from Speyr diocesan master builder Wilhelm Schulte junior. The day of the laying of the foundation stone was August 22, 1954, the octave day of the solemn feast of Mary's Assumption into heaven (after the liturgical reform, August 22 is celebrated as the Queen Mary's day). A year after the foundation stone was laid, which could topping are celebrated, and on 6 May 1956 took Speyer Bishop Isidor Markus Emanuel the consecration of the completed temple before.

In the years 1957 to 1960 the rectory , the sister house and the kindergarten of the parish were built. On May 31, 1960 Maria was separated from the Peace of St. Andrew and formed an independent second parish in Erbach.

In the years 2007 to 2009 restorations were carried out , which were managed by the planning office Andreas Michaeli from St. Ingbert-Rohrbach .

Furnishing

Inside the church is the twelve meter high and over one hundred square meter mosaic behind the altar . It was designed by Helena Trossen ( Essen ), while Pastor Hubert Sedlmair and parish helpers were responsible for the execution in December 1968.

The baptismal font made of aluminum bronze and the cover made of copper as well as the portal come from Franz Mörscher ( Neunkirchen ) and were manufactured from 1958 to 1962.

The Way of the Cross from 1962, made of ceramics and the colors gray, black and red, is the work of Günther Zeuner (Speyer). It is located on the south side wall of the nave . Günter Zeuner in 1960 also created native concrete - sculpture of the Virgin of Mercy in front of the church.

The church's other furnishings include artistically valuable door handles , various depictions of the Virgin Mary and the windows with Marian motifs designed by Wilhelm Braun (Munich). Among the Marian sculptures there is a figure from the first quarter of the 18th century, which is listed as an individual monument in the Saarland's list of monuments .

Bells and tower

The free-standing bell tower of the church has a height of 33.40 m. Inside it is a ringing consisting of 5 bells , which was cast in 1960 by the Saarlouis bell foundry ( Fraulautern ). The Saarlouiser bell foundry was founded in 1953 by Karl (III) Otto from Bremen-Hemelingen and Alois Riewer from Geislautern and existed until 1960. The first version of the largest bell ("Christ bell") had a crack and had to be refilled in 1965. Karl (III) Otto from the Otto bell foundry was responsible for this. When the tower was built, a metal bell cage was installed that was rigidly connected to the masonry . This caused problems because the vibration of the 2nd bell was almost identical to the natural resonance of the tower. Therefore, the tower was subjected to an extensive renovation from 2008 to 2009 , during which a new oak bell cage was installed and the number of vibrations of the critical bells was adjusted. In addition, a concrete refurbishment of the tower was carried out and the roof was given a new covering

organ

At the time of the inauguration on May 6, 1956, there was still no large organ in the church. A positive from Hugo Mayer Orgelbau ( Heusweiler ) on the gallery served as musical accompaniment to the services , for which no further information is known.

On November 27, 1959, the church received a new organ designed as a Rückpositiv manual work with a mobile, three-manual console with seven registers .

However, this was only an interim solution, because a large organ front was planned on the gallery since the consecration in 1956 . Drafts were available, but due to the liturgical reform of the Second Vatican Council , the choir and organ should be located near the sanctuary. Therefore, in close collaboration with the 1962 Organist en Ludwig Doerr designed a concept with a major organ in the loft and a "choral work" with five tabs in the left aisle . The organ should have a total of 46 stops.

But this concept did not materialize. After intensive discussions with Hugo Mayer Orgelbau, a plan was drawn up which provided for the entire organ prospect to be placed in the left transept . The console and choir should find their place under the prospectus. Pastor Sedlmair drew up a new plan for a prospectus, which was subject to changes before it was finally built. On Palm Sunday 1966, the Mayer organ was consecrated by Domkapitular Schwarz.

The organ had 41 stops, 3 manuals and a pedal. It was set up at ground level in the transept on three floors, one on top of the other, with the swell on the opposite side and the free-standing game table under the swell. The wind chests were slider chests with an electric play and stop action.

Swell of the organ

The Mayer organ has become very maintenance-intensive over the years. Malfunctions occurred and even entire plants failed. Due to the narrowness of the organ, they were no longer satisfied with the structural condition of the organ. In 2005 the opportunity arose to acquire the 1965 organ of the Church of St. Johann Baptist in Munich-Haidhausen , built by Josef Zeilhuber ( Sonthofen-Altstädten ) , which was replaced by an organ with 46 registers from the organ building company Hartwig Späth .

In 2007 the Mayer organ was dismantled in several stages and scrapped except for the case and pipework . The organ builder Thomas Gaida ( Wemmetsweiler ) built a new building in 2008, reusing the case, the motor, the prospect pipes and the positive chest of the Mayer organ, as well as the bellows , the wind chests and the pipework from 1871, 1907 and 1965 of the Zeilhuber organ. The commissioning took place on August 15, 2008 by Jürgen Weyers, Christian von Blohn and Dominik Schindler. In the near future, an organ work on the gallery is also to be realized.

The new organ has 26 registers, 3 manuals and a pedal. The wind chests in the main work, positive, solo and pedal are electric cone chests with digital control, the carillon has electric slide chests. The free-standing and mobile three-manual game table is provided with a 30 m long cable. Solo and carillon are not assigned to any manual.
