history
The oldest part of the church is the basement of the tower , which dates from the 14th century.
The beginnings of the church, which was originally built in the Romanesque style, go back to the 11th century. Evidence that the church was built on the rubble of a Gallo-Celtic sanctuary has not yet been scientifically proven. Until the introduction of the Reformation in 1558 in the Duchy of Pfalz-Zweibrücken , to which Niederbexbach belonged, the place with the church and courtyards was under the Wörschweiler monastery . In the following years it was used by both denominations, and in 1881 it was awarded to the Protestants.
The current church building was built between 1908 and 1909 in neo-Gothic style according to plans by the architect, district builder Johann Caspar Löhmer (Homburg).
Restoration work was carried out on the church in 2003 and 2017/18 .
Since 2010, the church has been part of the shell band of the St. James Pilgrimage , which is also illustrated by the walling of a scallop shell in the pavement in front of the entrance to the church.
