Biesingen is a district of Blieskastel in the Saarpfalz district ( Saarland ). Until the end of 1973, Biesingen was an independent municipality in the Sankt Ingbert district .

geography

Biesingen is located on the Osterberg ridge between the Mandelbachtal in the west and the Blies in the east between Blieskastel and Aßweiler, making it the highest settlement in the Bliesgau .

Most of the district is in the Bliesgau . Two layers of rock can be seen in the color of the fields: with its reddish color, red sandstone is predominant, in the northern transition to Niederwürzbach and towards Blieskastel it is overlaid by shell limestone - in a yellowish-brown color. The lowest topographic point is at 280  m above sea level. NHN in the Langen Thal , about 80 meters below the dominant church hill . The highest point is 380  m above sea level. NHN formed on the boundary of Erfweiler ( Hölschberg ( 397  m above sea level )).

The Biesingerberg occupies a special morphological position, which forms a 20 meter sloping plateau on all sides and which is further emphasized by the St. Anna parish church with its slender tower. It has not yet been clarified whether this is due to a land fault separated from the Hölschberg as a witness mountain or a mass of earth equipped with more resistant material of shell limestone. The view possible from here is terrific and an ideal point of view for morphological studies of the Bliesgau: you can see the Sickinger Höhe in the northeast, the heights near Pirmasens in the east, the Kalbenberg and the Kahlenberg in the southeast , and the wooded mountain ranges of the Bliesgau to the south and southwest with its scattered villages and in the north the Kirkeler Wald and far on the horizon the Schaumberg near Tholey .

history

A stone ax made of diabase found around 1860, cut on both sides, documents the presence of people in the Neolithic Age and is therefore the oldest trace of settlement.

The present place is probably a Franconian foundation of the 5th or 6th century. However, it wasn't until 1206 that Biesingen was first mentioned as Bunsingen in the regesta of the Wörschweiler monastery . In the Thirty Years War Biesingen was almost deserted. Then, like Blieskastel, it belonged to the von der Leyen house . The Battle of Biesingen on November 17, 1793 sealed the victory of the French revolutionary troops under General Lazare Hoche over the allied Prussians and Austrians and thus the end of the territory of the Counts of der Leyen. Due to the defeat of Napoleon , Biesingen came with the Palatinate to Bavaria in 1816 and was an independent municipality from this time. After the First World War , Biesingen - like the whole of the Saar Palatinate - was separated from Bavaria and added to the newly formed Saar area .

As part of the Saarland territorial and administrative reform , the previously independent municipality of Biesingen was assigned to the city of Blieskastel on January 1, 1974 . Biesingen has been a district and a municipality since then.

The oldest houses are grouped directly around the church and have been used as farmhouses. With the beginning of coal mining in St. Ingbert in the 19th century, new streets with workers' houses were added, which today are mainly responsible for the appearance of the village. After the Second World War, several streets were redesigned as residential streets: "Am Chaussee", "Hölschberg", "Münchwiese" and "Würzbachstraße". After about 30 years of standstill, 40 new buildings have been built in two construction areas in recent years. Almost all residents are commuters from the surrounding centers of Blieskastel , St. Ingbert, Homburg and Saarbrücken .

coat of arms

The coat of arms of Biesingen is divided vertically: in the right half stands on a golden hill a silver Gothic church with a tower view and a ridge cross with a golden door and two windows. The left half is divided horizontally: at the top a green linden tree on a silver background with roots, branches and fifteen leaves, at the bottom a silver pole on a blue background.

The neo-Gothic St. Anne's Church , built according to plans by August Barth and consecrated in 1905, with its tall, slender tower forms the landmark of Biesingen that can be seen from afar. The linden tree reproduces the linden tree planted around 1875 in the center of the village, in the immediate vicinity of which numerous village events take place: It symbolizes the community in the village. The silver stake in blue is derived from the coat of arms of the Lords and Counts von der Leyen . They were sovereigns and landlords from the 15th century until the French Revolution.

Culture and sights

Due to its exposed location, the Catholic parish church of St. Anna , built in 1904, is a landmark that can be seen from afar.

There are a large number of crossroads in the area.

A few years ago, part of the optical telegraph line Paris - Landau was reconstructed in Lorraine and the Saar-Palatinate district . One of these masts stands in an exposed position on the Biesinger district. The original location could no longer be precisely determined when it was built in 1998. A counterpart on the French side is in Cadenbronn, a district of Nousseviller-Saint-Nabor .

Right in the heart of Biesingen is the only existing inn that got its name from a very old linden tree. This historic inn "Zur Linde" (from the 17th century) has been closed for several years because it is in need of renovation.

Economy and Infrastructure

Agriculture was still the focus of local economic activity in the 19th century. It was also lime , sand and gypsum won. Today almost all employees work in the industrial and service companies in the surrounding cities.

traffic

The main traffic axis is the B 423 .

Biesingen is connected to the saarVV public transport network via the R10 Blieskastel - Saarbrücken bus line.
