history

The place Blickweiler is located on ancient settlement soil. This is proven by the finds of two stone axes that were handed over to the Palatinate History Museum in Speyer . In Roman times there was a pottery near the later train station that produced Terra Sigillata . The distribution of goods ranged from Britain to the central Danube. Pottery was given up around the year 160. The finds are in the Museum of Prehistory and Early History in Saarbrücken . Robert Knorr published the results of this excavation and the excavation at Eschweilerhof near Neunkirchen (Saar) .

Blickweiler was first mentioned in 1191. The Counts of Blieskastel were the landlords of the place. The founder of the Gräfinthal monastery , Elisabeth von Blieskastel, granted the monastery the right of patronage to the church and to the tithe. So the monastery became the most important landlord in Blickweiler. In the 14th century the place fell to Kurtrier , in 1666 the place came under the rule of the Barons von der Leyen . From 1798 to 1814 the place belonged to the Saar department , from 1816 to 1918 like the entire Saarpfalz district to the Bavarian Palatinate and thus to the Kingdom of Bavaria . Since then, the place has shared the fate of all Saarland places after the two world wars.

As part of the Saarland regional and administrative reform , the previously independent municipality of Blickweiler was assigned to the city of Blieskastel on January 1, 1974 . Blickweiler has been a district and a municipal district since then.
