Lautzkirchen ( Blieskastel in the Saar- Palatinate district .
) is a district of Blieskastel-Mitte, a district ofgeography
Lautzkirchen lies on the edge of the Bliesgau and the Sankt Ingbert-Kirkeler forest area and borders immediately to the north with Blieskastel.
history
Lautzkirchen was first mentioned in a document in 1180. In this document confirming Count Ludwig von Saarwerden the monastery Wörschweiler the donation of the property of his ancestors. A “Wecelo, presbiter de Leudeskirchen” appeared among the witnesses. The discovery of a stone ax and the Gallo-Roman grave pillars on the Roten Fels, a rock section on Kirkeler Straße, testify to the earlier settlement of the place; also a larger than life Jupiter stele (around 250 AD), which was discovered in the area in 1812. Today it is exhibited in the Roman collection of the Historisches Museum der Pfalz zu Speyer .
In 1694/95 a paper mill was built by three companies , the shares of which subsequently passed into the possession of the Counts von der Leyen , whose territory Lautzkirchen belonged to. At the time, it was the only paper mill between the Rhine and Moselle and later became an oil, tar and gypsum mill. Today a sand works is operated there.
In 1937 Lautzkirchen was incorporated into the town of Blieskastel.
Culture and sights
Two buildings on Pirminiusstrasse are worth seeing. The residential building with number 22 from the 17th century, an eaves, two-storey plastered building, was part of an estate belonging to the Counts von der Leyen. The main building of the former Hofgut, Pirminiusstr. 19, directly opposite and now used as a residence with an inn, shows almost its original condition. Special features of this building are the corner hanging bay windows with its floral ornaments and the stair tower with its pyramid roof on the courtyard side. Both houses are on the list of monuments of the Saarpfalz district.
The dominant building in the center of Lautzkirchen is the Catholic Church of St. Mauritius . It was built according to plans by the Speyer diocesan building council, Schulte, and was consecrated on September 25, 1960. The Saarland artist Marianne Aatz designed some of the church's windows . She also partly participated in their execution.
A carillon of 28 bells has been ringing from the church tower since 2000, eight of which ring bells. A total of eleven bells rang before the carillon was installed. The ringing bell ensemble up to the turn of the millennium with its five “Schilling” and six “Paccard” bells was unique in terms of size and quality, and it was accorded outstanding importance in German bells. Three times a day, at 8:32 a.m., 12:32 p.m. and 7:32 p.m., melodies selected according to ecclesiastical and secular circumstances are played. The repertoire comprises a total of 80 songs.
