The Church of St. Mauritius is a Catholic parish church in Lautzkirchen , a district of Blieskastel in the Saar- Palatinate district of Saarland . The patron saint of the church is Saint Mauritius .

history

In 1180 a church was first mentioned in Lautzkirchen. In the years 1469–70 a new nave was added to the Romanesque choir tower of the church mentioned in the document. When Lautzkirchen was settled again after the Thirty Years' War , the church building was in a very dilapidated condition, which was remedied by a restoration in 1724 . In 1733 the Lautzkirch parish was reoccupied .

By architect Johannes Peter Reheis , who also for the plans of the Church of St. Stephen in Illingen was responsible, and at the Castle Church Blieskastel participated, took place in the years 1785-86 to build a new church with ridge turret , the Romanesque choir tower was only used as a staircase . In 1825 a gallery was built in the church . From 1859 to 1860 the church was subjected to a restoration. The first painting took place in 1900, followed by a second in 1934 by the church painter Alfred Gottwald ( Bonn ). In 1930 the church building was extended by adding a sacristy . During the construction work, underground vaults were discovered. A final restoration took place in 1936 before the church was completely demolished in 1958.

Between 1958 and 1960, the current church building was built according to plans by the Speyer diocesan building councilor Wilhelm Schulte II and consecrated on September 25, 1960. In addition to Schulte , the architect Helfrich was also involved in the design of the church .

From 2000 to 2001 the church was restored.

Furnishing

The church's equipment includes valuable measuring instruments from the dissolved parish of Gutenbrunnen. Furthermore, the furnishings by Peter Reheis from the 18th century, which is listed as an individual monument in the Saarland monuments list. Some of the church windows were designed by the Saarland artist Marianne Aatz ( Neunkirchen ), who also partly participated in their execution in 1960.

The organ of the church was built in 1975 by Hugo Mayer Orgelbau ( Heusweiler ). The instrument, which is set up on the side of a gallery , has 24 registers , divided into 2 manuals and pedal, and has mechanical sliding chests with electrical register action . The game table of the organ is embodied as a game cabinet, and installed in the lower part of the organ.

Bells

In the church tower there has been a chime consisting of 28 bells since 2000 . It is divided into eight Läuteglocken the foundries Paccard ( Annecy / France ) and Schilling ( Heidelberg ), in three former "Schilling" -Läuteglocken with the percussion tones f "(110 kg), as" (62 kg) and b "(43 kg) as well as a carillon consisting of 17 bells.

Before the year 2000 there was a ringing of eleven bells in the tower, which up to the turn of the millennium with its five "Schilling" and six "Paccard" bells represented a unique size and quality, and was assigned a paramount importance in the German bell system has been.
