history

The history of the Eschweilerhof can be traced back to Roman times based on finds in 1912 and excavations in 1927 . We found pottery from the years 120 to 160, on a Samian ware - pottery suggest that manufactured goods for export at that time.

The first documentary mention comes from the year 1212. The Wörschweiler monastery mentioned the place as a settlement "Eischweiler". The name was interpreted by the local historian Ernst Christmann as a hamlet of Agi / Egi. Pope Innocent III transferred his goods in this area to the monastery. After the monastery acquired some more goods in the area, the village developed back again. In 1564 the settlement was only mentioned as a desert .

The next settlement took place in 1696, when the Swiss Nikolaus Weber from the Canton of Bern was settled as an inheritance by the Zweibrücker Rentkammer . In 1846 there were six buildings on the settlement. In 1961 there were 72 inhabitants.

On the occasion of the territorial and administrative reform in Saarland , the settlement, which previously belonged to the municipality of Kirkel-Neuhäusel and can therefore still be reached today under the Kirkel telephone code 06849, came to Neunkirchen on January 1, 1974 and has been administered as part of the city center since then.
