economy

The former farming village has two full-time businesses that are run on repatriate farms. There are several restaurants. There is a pottery and a large apiary in the village. There is also a scythe workshop. There is also a building construction company and a roofing company, a carpenter's workshop and a forestry company. In addition, Walsheim is home to Haus Sonne, a remedial and educational institution for disabled people, the largest employer in the Gersheim community.

Culture and sights

The place became famous for its brewery , whose products were sold overseas before the war. The last witness is the former brewery cellar, which today serves cultural events with its vaults.

In the redeveloped town center is the Duppstein, a limestone ridge that is 10,000 years old and is located in a geological environment of 200 million years. The town's landmark is the 12th century Protestant church with a sacrament house (Oculus Dei), which is a typical example of a Romanesque village church.

Also worth seeing is the neo-Romanesque Catholic parish church of St. Pirminius . After it was partially destroyed in 1944, its tower was restored from 1956 to 1958 and renovated in 1968/69.

Leisure and Tourism

Walsheim is on the Saarland circular hiking trail , which offers a wide view of the Palatinate and the Vosges .

Walsheim is close to the Bliestal-Freizeitweg, which stretches along the route of the former Bliestalbahn from Sarreguemines to Blieskastel .

There is a sports field with a new playground. In Walsheim there is a large campsite with an outdoor pool. If you follow the path to the outdoor pool, you come to the Walsheimer Echo.

In the woods around Walsheim there is a so-called "Nature Fitness Park". This consists of several signposted Nordic walking routes and hiking trails. Above the brewery cellar, the source of the former brewery is used for a Kneipp facility.
