The Hetschenbach is an almost eight kilometer long Kerbsohlental river in the south of the Saarland . It flows through the village of Walsheim and flows into the Blies from the left in Gersheim .
geography
course
The Hetschenbach rises on the slope of the Großer Kahlenberg west-southwest of Böckweiler , which is already beyond the watershed on the upper reaches of the Schreckelbach , at a height of almost 400 m above sea level. NN and flows out at an altitude of 205 m above sea level. NN in the center of Gersheim in the Blies .
Two sources form the Hetschenbach about 100 meters to the south and west, respectively, with the one further north of the two sources being regarded as the main source. As with many other springs in this region, the water arises at the boundary layer between the upper, partly very depleted Middle Muschelkalk and the clay / marl layer below. In the floodplain area there are loamy deposits. A little below the confluence of the two streams, the water is dammed into a cattle trough.
Above Walsheim, the brook follows the natural conditions largely unhindered, while a mostly trapezoidal concrete bed determines its flow on its lower course.
Due to the nature of the soil, there is a relatively high risk potential for the leaching of nitrate and similar hazardous substances for the water balance. However, extensive land use (mainly forest and meadows) decimates this risk. Walsheim is not yet connected to the sewage disposal network. Household wastewater is fed to collectors. The Hetschenbach has water quality class II. In Walsheim is at 245 m above sea level. NN a level that is maintained by the Saarland State Office for Environment and Occupational Safety (LUA).

Flora and fauna
The Hetschbach is lined with alders , ash trees and willows .
14 different creatures have been identified in the Hetschenbach. By far the most common is the approximately 2 cm long shrimp Gammarus fossarum or Gammarus pulex . In addition, in the river water in Germany quite rare and to be at risk were bullheads found further flatworms , oligochaetes ( Oligochaeta ), mayfly larvae , caddis fly larvae and other fly larvae species.
The most common species are Agrostis stolonifera , Marigold , swamp-sedge , Epilobium hirsutum , Epilobium parviflorum , plume grass , marsh iris , Lythrum salicaria (Lythrum salicaria) , water mint , reed canary grass , Creeping Buttercup , bittersweet nightshade and brooklime .
