The Protestant Church Wolfersheim is the church of the Protestant parish in Wolfersheim in the Saarland in the church district ( Dean's Office ) Zweibrücken of the Evangelical Church of the Palatinate . The Walsheim rectory is responsible for the parish of Wolfersheim . In the list of monuments of the Saarland, the church is a single monument listed.

history

In the 14th century, the choir tower , which is still preserved today, was built, a church that was probably originally oriented in a north-south direction and formerly consecrated to St. Stephen . Since 1453 Wolfersheim belonged to the Duchy of Pfalz-Zweibrücken , where the Reformation was introduced in 1533 . When the village of Wolfersheim came under French rule in the second half of the 17th century as a result of the reunion policy of Louis XIV , the church became a simultaneous church , which was available to Protestants as well as Catholics for worship . Today's nave was built in 1754 . In 1857 the interior of the church was rebuilt, during which the gallery was expanded and an additional support for the organ was installed. After severe damage in the Second World War , the church building was restored inside in 1958-60 and outside in 1974 . Another restoration took place between 1996 and 1997.

The nave from the 18th century is a simple baroque hall building with three window axes . The choir tower from the 14th century has a gable roof and two Gothic tracery windows on the south side. Inside the church there is a bell from 1785.

organ

The organ of the church was built in 1857 by the organ builder and music dealer Gustav Schlimbach ( Speyer ) and had the following disposition :

In 1960 a renovation was carried out by Lotar Hintz ( Heusweiler ) and in 1974 a renovation by the Walcker company ( Ludwigsburg ). In 2003, Walcker ( Kleinblittersdorf ) carried out a partial restoration. The single-manual instrument, which is built into the gallery parapet with a play cabinet on the side, has 10 registers and mechanical slide drawers .

Bells

There are three bells in the church tower. The large Saar Liberation Bell from 1936 by Hermann Hamm serves as a special bell. It still hangs on an originally preserved arched yoke that the bell founder made in the same year. Because of its inscription, the bell did not have to be turned off during the Second World War . She survived the war unscathed to the end. In 1952, the French bell foundry Causard cast a small bell. Later, in 1970 , the Bachert bell foundry purchased another bell , which closes the gap between the two existing bells. Another bell from 1785 by Christoph Klein ( Ernstweiler ) has been preserved in the church since 1950. Because of its crack, it was removed from the tower after the war and kept in the nave. Their strike tone is unknown.
