The church of St. Martin is a Roman Catholic parish church in Saarland Bexbach , Saarpfalz district . Saint Martin is the church patron . In the list of monuments of the Saarland, the church is a single monument listed.

history

The current church had a previous building that was demolished in 1880. In the years 1880/81 a new building was built in the neo-Romanesque style according to plans by the architect Franz Schöberl ( Speyer ). In 1881 it was inaugurated by the then Speyr bishop Joseph Georg von Ehrler . The current rectory next to the church was only built in 1895. In 1891 the church got its first bell , consisting of four bells (e, f sharp, g sharp, h ) cast by the company Bour & Günzer ( Metz ). The church facilities to finance in 1904 was the "St. Martinus Association ”was founded. The church clock , which is owned by the community, was installed in 1907. Two years later, the church building was subjected to a restoration for the first time , during which the interior of the church was painted.

During the First World War in 1915 three of the four bells were dismantled for war purposes, whereby the largest bell (s) was allowed to remain in the tower. In 1919 there was a "church robbery" in which strangers wreaked havoc in the church. In 1921 a new bell (4 bells: e, g, a, c) was inaugurated, which came from the Pfeifer bell foundry ( Kaiserslautern ). As part of the second renovation of the church, the gallery was extended by a yoke in 1928 .

During the Second World War , the three largest bells were confiscated and dismantled for war purposes in 1942, while the smallest bell did not have to be handed in and is now hanging in Niederbexbach. In 1944/45 the church suffered considerable damage from bombing , which was temporarily repaired.

In the years after the war, the church was restored and expanded from 1945 to 1950, during which the sacristy was enlarged. In 1951, Bishop Joseph Wendel consecrated four new bells (e, g, a, h). During the third restoration of the church in 1962/63, the chancel was redesigned and new windows were installed. In addition, a baptistery with a new baptismal font was set up. In 1980/81 the church was restored again, with new heating and new benches being installed and a new floor being laid.

During the restoration in 2006, the chancel was redesigned with the inclusion of figures from the high altar from the time it was built. A new altar was also erected, which was consecrated on September 3, 2006 by Bishop Anton Schlembach .

Furnishing

In 1941 Adolph Späth ( Munich ) painted a new way of the cross , based on the original by Gebhard Fugel .

Painter Willi Kurz ( Neunkirchen ) designed the new church windows in 1963 , which were made by the master glass master Kaschenbach ( Trier ). In 2006 a red sandstone cube with white grain was erected as a new altar in the chancel, as well as a new ambo made of grained sandstone and a masonry reredos . Behind the altar and ambo there is a crucifixion group consisting of a crucifix and figures of Maria and Johannes , all of which come from the high altar removed in 1962 from the time it was built.

organ

The organ of the church was built in 1964 by the Hugo Mayer Orgelbau company ( Heusweiler ) and replaced the organ purchased by Voit u. Sons ( Durlach , 18 registers ). The instrument, which is set up on a gallery , has 35 registers, distributed over three manuals and pedal in a free-standing console . The wind chests are slider chests with an electric play and stop action .
